IRS Form W-2C is used to report a correction to your original W-2 form. If you made an error with the employer’s name, social security number, or the amount you paid the employee, you can file a W-2C.
Form W-2C Deadlines
You may file corrected information for up to two years preceding the current tax year. While you may file a correction anytime, here are the deadlines for the W-2C form. File corrected forms before these deadlines to avoid penalties.
- Recipient copy > January 31
- IRS paper filing > January 31
- IRS eFile > January 31
If a due date falls on a weekend or holiday, it will be due the next business day.
